ZK-TR90 Stabilizing Resin
ZK-TR90 is a high performance, water washable, Heat cured resin designed for stabilizing woods. The resin cures to form a hard durable thermoset Plastic formed by a free radical polymerization initiated by exposure to heat. The resin can be cured at temperatures between 80ºC - 96ºC, (177º F -205º F). Cure is preferably accomplished by heating in cure oven.
ZK-TR90 is suitable for use in all currently Available stabilization equipment for the stabilization of Soft and unstable woods. The resin is suitable for Use with all common types of stabilizing processes including: wet vacuum, wet vacuum/pressure, dry vacuum/ Pressure or pressure stabilizing.
ZK-TR90 forms a densely cross-linked thermoset polymer when cured. The resin is formulated with a carefully chosen balance of reactive an nonreactive surfactants. This critical formula results in a high resistance to water.

IV. CURING RATES AND METHODS
Wood must be free of oils, wax, paint, stain and dry prior to stabilization. It is recommended that wood be dried down to 5% to 0 % prior to stabilizing.
Turn ability of stabilized wood is substantially improved due to the reduction in irregularities in the wood.
ZK-TR90 cures when the temperature of the resin within the wood reaches 90º C for a minimum of 1 hour. Special initiators blended Into the resin cause free radical polymerization once resin temperature reaches specified cure temperatures. Thermal conductivity of the wood being stabilized and the recovery rate of the curing medium is factors used to calculate actual process times. The typical method for curing is placing of stabilized wood in heated cure oven until cure temperature is sustained for 60 minutes or more. Wood blanks that are large may require longer curing times to achieve the required cure temperature.
Reactivity of the stabilizing resin is monitored by measuring gel time of a representative sample from the chambers. Resin temperature should be kept below 80°F. Gel time measured in a 15x 85mm test tube should be between 4-6 minutes at 90oC.
ZK-TR 90 is easy to store and will exhibit long shelf life under proper storage conditions. The resin should be stored in its original container and away from direct sunlight or other sources of UV light. Storage temperatures should be maintained below 27ºC (80ºF).
ALL CHEMICALS SHOULD BE HANDLED WITH CARE.
ZK-TR 90 resin can be safely handled using normally accepted practices for handling non-toxic industrial chemicals. Rubber gloves should be worn when handling uncured resin. Avoid excessive skin contact and wash thoroughly with water and mild soap if contact occurs. If dermatitis occurs, seek medical attention and avoid further exposure.
Avoid accidental contact with the eyes by using safety glasses. If accidental contact with the eyes should occur, flush immediately with copious amounts of clean water and obtain medical attention.
VII. WASTE TREATMENT
Cured ZK-TR90 is inert and can be disposed of as ordinary industrial trash. Uncured resin should be cured before disposal. resin in solution in wash water effluent is biodegradable and normally acceptable at local POTW treatment facilities.
Most in-plant treatment systems can process moderate effluent with minimal difficulty. Contact- Kennedy Custom Calls for assistance with specific application issues.
